Weekly Photo Challenge: Escape | Broken Shell

Flights,camera,action

In my left hand I am holding a broken shell.

In the foreground the figure of a man is a blur.

What is his purpose? Why is he unclear?

Is he looking for escape routes above the moving sea?

Am I beside him?

  1. clever girl! What a magnificent post, great picture (did I ever tell you about my obsession with shells and stones? I ALWAYS pick one up when i visit a beach). I loved the idea, the poetry of the picture, the underlying suggestion of the skin being broken to show one bleeds, or the body (the shell) impaired and in need of sustinance and/or fixing. The brilliant duality of the blurry man, being unclear as a visual and a metaphysical entity, almost a parody of every poet’s unclear destiny. Are you beside him? Yes, Michele, you dear, sweet lady, you are beside him, beside us all. Thank you for this wonderful piece, I loved it, much love, Baldy ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thank you. It’s a long time since I’ve been called a clever girl! I’m usually a bad girl ๐Ÿ™‚ Aha… we share an obsession with shells and stones. I grow to like you more each day! And your critique of the poem and the image is sublime. “(the shell) impaired and in need of sustenance and/or fixing. The brilliant duality of the blurry man…almost a parody of every poetโ€™s unclear destiny.” You are the news my heart has been waiting for. Bless you so much. Much love back to you, my dear pal and poet extraordinaire (Baldy)…

      1. Delighted to share with you… Summer Breeze by the Isley Brothers. I can sing too (on good days!)

See the curtains hanging in the window
In the evening on a Friday night
A little light a-shining through the window
        Lets me know everything’s alright

        CHORUS:
Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind
Summer breeze makes me feel fine
Blowing through the jasmine in my mind

See the paper lying on the sidewalk
A little music from the house next door
So I walk on up to the door step
Through the screen and across the floor

        Repeat chorus

      2. Wonderful, yes, i do recognise them now, bless you for the song, mon amis! I manage a neat Don Mclean when singing ‘Vincent’ at karaoke or Lonestar’s ‘Amazed’ (love both those songs). I was wracking my brain when you mentioned the Isley Brothers, I thought of ‘The Sun Ain’t Gonna Shine Anymore’ but then remembered that was the Walker Brothers! Thanks for sharing that with me, Michele, I feel special. I must disapppear soon as baby Willow will be up for her one o’clock feed soon. It has been lovely talking with you this evening, my friend. It cheers me to see your smiling face pop up when i read or write here. You are a beautiful woman, in every way, pal. *hugs*, Baldy ๐Ÿ™‚

      3. Oh that’s fantastic!! And my apologies regarding your beautiful child. Willow is a girl. Please forgive me:-) I am trying to commit you and your comments to memory. So far, could do better ๐Ÿ™‚ Lovely talking with you tonight. Today was a better day because of you… Sweet dreams to all who sleep under your roof ๐Ÿ™‚

      4. You move me, dear heart. I actually have three beautiful children. Jonathan, 14 next month and a strapping lad that I am very proud of. Jonathan is the one good thing that came out of a mispent youth, There is a lot of sad history with my fight to see Jonathan, he now visits every two weeks and stays for the weekend (and in holidays). I have never missed his birthday, supported his mother (for want of a better word) financially since day one and endeavoured to make him some wonderful memories, Sian (my amazing wife) has been in his life since he was about three and a half, they have a beautiful relationship and the pair of them keep me grounded). Oscar, is two and is a terror, as two-year olds are, though he is also a delight and beautifully mannered with a fantastic cheekiness. Baby Willow arrived about seven weeks ago and is gorgeous (I am so excited to have a daughter! Daddy’s little girl!). I am truly blessed and I intend to conquer the world with rubber ducks (quack quack) *giggles*. My beautiful wife and I met on a blind date. I never believed in love at first sight until it happened, and when it happened, magic exploded in my soul. I still get butterflies dancing in my tummy when I hold her hand or see her smile, ten years on. We will have been married seven years this August. I firmly believe love will save the world, it saved me. Bless you, Michele, I’d love to hear more about you ๐Ÿ™‚ *hugs* much love, Baldy ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Sahm, thank you so much for your beautiful words and insight. “Dissolution of consciousness/dream state’. Attempting to excavate this mystical territory is one of the reasons I write poetry. Blessings to you. Michele

  2. Oh the potential answers in so many different minds…it’s both what makes the world so very beautiful as well as ugly… I like to say beauty always proves victorious in the hearts of men who see with their eyes closed. Very fun read. Thank you 1Love!

  3. I instantly thought egg shell rather than sea shell. Your piece reminds me of the fragility of perception, that nothing is fixed nor is it clearly in focus at all times. Your response to life and all you see is essentially an emotional one, and the memories and vision come from that place of non-sight, deep within the womb of your soul.
Warmth and blessings to you today M
    Lady Isis

    1. Yes, I’m sure you’re right that on another level the sea shell is an egg shell. I seem to remember I was treading on thin ice that day! Exactly as you say… we imagine from a place that is beyond where we can ‘see’. Our perception is our entrance into timelessness. Bless you, Lady Isis. michele x

    1. So glad you enjoyed this post! For me the wonderful part was that I didn’t plan it out. Just looked at the photograph and in a few moments the words appeared. Once the blurred image of the man got under my skin I just followed his point of view!

  4. Powerful! And so much already spoken through your words and the wonderful comments… I feel the urge to just sit in the hollow of the shell and listen to the surf and see what our companion does next…
    Beautiful. Thank you, Michele!

  5. Thanks Michelle for liking my “Perspectives” poem. Your photography is beautiful. So you live in London; I have an invitation to the UK Film Festival this November, but am wondering if I can afford it. Cheers. Sandra

    1. Dear Pat, thank you so much for your kind words. You came so clearly into my mind, tonight. Immediately, I popped into your site for a visit. As always, I was greeted with an open door and the most magnificent welcome!! Your photography continues to astonish me. Thank you and take care, Michele

  6. This is great photo and captures the imagination. It could be a cave looking out to sea. Also it reminds me of a photo I took out my back yard depicting a crack in the clouds which looked similar but not as effective as this. On Wednesday 25th December 2013 my JimMorrisonDreamDiaries will cease but I’ve another JimMorrisonMystic Images which will be about images only with related stories. After that will be back to the beginning with Musical Vibrations Blog so thank you for all your support. Feel free to look into the new one ~ just one day old but ever changing to get it looking Spiritual or ‘Off the all’ like me. Thanks for dropping by…Was thinking of you. Hope you are well. I am breathing and standing so that’s all I need. Ha. Ha.
